On Multihop Broadcast over Adaptively Duty-Cycled Wireless Sensor Networks

چکیده
We consider the problem of multihop broadcast over adaptively duty-cycled wireless sensor networks (WSNs) where neighborhood nodes are not simultaneously awake. We present Hybrid-cast, an asynchronous and multihop broadcasting protocol, which can be applied to low duty-cycling or quorum-based duty-cycling schedule where nodes send out a beacon message at the beginning of wakeup slots. Hybridcast achieves better tradeoff between broadcast latency and broadcast count compared to previous broadcast solutions. It adopts opportunistic data delivery in order to reduce the broadcast latency. Meanwhile, it reduces redundant transmission via delivery deferring and online forwarder selection. We establish the upper bound of broadcast count and the broadcast latency for a given duty-cycling schedule. We evaluate Hybrid-cast through extensive simulations. The results validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our design.

Duty-Cycled Wireless Sensor Networks: Wakeup Scheduling, Routing, and Broadcasting
(ABSTRACT) In order to save energy consumption in idle states, low duty-cycled operation is widely used in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), where each node periodically switches between sleeping mode and awake mode. Although efficient toward saving energy, duty-cycling causes many challenges , such as difficulty in neighbor discovery due to asynchronous wakeup/sleep scheduling, time-varying tra...

We study group communication scheduling in duty-cycled multi-hop wireless sensor networks. Assume that time is divided into time-slots and we group multiple consecutive time-slots into periods. Each node can transmit data at any time-slot while it only wakes up at its active time-slot of every period and thus be allowed to receive data. Under the protocol interference model, we investigate four...

In duty-cycled wireless sensor networks, deployed sensor nodes are usually put to sleep for energy efficiency according to sleep scheduling approaches. Any sleep scheduling scheme with its supporting protocols ensures that data can always be routed from source to sink. In this paper, we investigate a problem of multi-hop broadcast and routing in random sleep scheduling scheme, and propose a nov...
متن کاملUnderstanding a Broadcast Service in Low Duty-Cycle Wireless Sensor Network
In low-duty-cycle networks, sensors stay dormant most of time to save their energy and wake up based on their needs. Such a technique, while prolonging the network lifetime, sets excessive challenges for efficient broadcast within the network. Broadcast service is widely used during the life time of a wireless sensor network (WSN), such as networking setup, data collection/storage and query ans...
